Horses physiology permits them to make full use of velocity to escape predators and they've got a well-developed sense of balance and a good fight-or-flight intuition. Connected with this need to run away from predators in the wild is a peculiar characteristic: horses have the ability to sleep both standing up and laying. Female horses, called mares, carry their young for about 11 months, and a young horse, termed as a foal, can stand up and run soon after its birth. Most domesticated horses commence training under saddle or in harness in between the ages of two and four. They reach full adult growth by the age five, and have almost lifespan of between 25 and 30 years.
